It was officially fall but I could still see remnants of summer lingering around in forms of light strands and warm pockets in the air. It was also the day after the eclipse and the world felt a little strange as if a pressure had been released into the atmosphere, I also think Wednesday was also the first day that I noticed that eerie haze the begins sometime in October leaving me to believe they are connected in some way.
I sometimes linger around Tacoma, today specifically Point defiance a place packed full of hidden wonders and secrets that I love to visit during all seasons. The park sits on the north edge of Tacoma reaching up into the Puget Sound like an old finger pointing to the coast. The Park is a recreation play ground offering awesome views great trails and plenty of strange and unexpected surprises.
This day I got some subway and a monster and ate my food under a tree in the park that was dropping what I think were pears wile listening to the nerdist podcast on last fm. The leaves where falling here but not as much as I thought they would be at this time. The park has an awesome garden that I visit allot because the plants are always changing and there is always something new going on and it’s huge. I then decided to walk down to the water and found the ferry that goes to Vashon Island, I almost took the ferry but I found the process of boarding it awkward so I just watched it come and go.
I returned to my car and decided to take 5 mile drive which has some crazy views of the Puget Sound. I drove down to the parking lot by the beach and found it crowded but found a picture that reminded me of something from the walking dead, there is something strange about a person and their dog all alone, I have always loved that character dynamic. I then traveled to several viewpoints that were so perfect that time seemed to stop and all I felt was the warm sun and I felt revived in some strange way. From these points seals and marine birds can be seen as well as the Tacoma narrows bridge creating a view that you might only see in paintings.
The parks animals are cartoonish in ways that confuse me. The birds are strange and foreign and the critters are way to friendly often times laying in the road trying to look cute to tempt you to feed them, but don’t because they are wild animals and can turn on you at any time. I watched crows destroy some people’s back packs in seconds and make a huge mess.
I decided to drive to the Tacoma water front, it would be dark soon. I parked and made my way to a bench and watched the water imagining how it looked for the Native Americans that lived here in the past and what a beautiful place it was. I think it was around seven at this time and the light was starting to do strange things on the land across from me. I moved down to the beach and was throwing rocks into the water and enjoying the calm mirror like water. It was now dark and I noticed that the water started to make a ruckus all at once and began crashing on the shore and then behind me a women was being attacked by her own dog and when I turned back to the water my eyes widened in awe of the moon that was in front of me.
The night before there had been an eclipse that I had missed but somehow I did not miss it all because here was a blood red moon the size of a mountain climbing over the hills like an inverted sun pulling in light. The water reflected light and I could feel it hitting my face almost burning me. Only in a dream have I seen a moon like this that makes your hart heavy and your body light throwing you into space in all directions all at once. Eventually I felt that everything that could be conveyed from the moon had connected with my soul so I ventured away with a piece of the blood red moon in my back pocket as a remedy for what might lay ahead of me or behind ,while I drift through space and time.
