What started out as a trip to the mountains turned into a trip across the state to the east and in 2 and a half hours we were in the desert away from the Puget sound driven north west, we were in Eastern Washington.
Driving, driving was the theme with observations and quick camera work around every corner shooting up the mountain in a good gas mileage road warrior, we where Sunday drivers.
The lake presented its self like a pearl in a huge oyster of granite and volcanic matter, it said in a gentle whisper “hello”. It was smooth and clear and surreal as surreal is imagined but it was dead inside I could tell but lovely all the same.
We where high and the vast mountain pushed us down the back side out away with the rivers that flowed directions not recognizable. The trees changed and then they began to disappear and grass was all then rock.
Giants roamed the hills along with Jesus and this felt like holy land. The hills where of grass and rock with apple orchards far off in the distance, the giant rocks that sat in the hills awed me. If I could I would have climbed one but the road called and we were on a non restraining journey with tomorrow being are only deadline
We entered the town confused; this town was not ruled by water but by the mountains and hills. We sought Mexican food and we found it, Mexican food being abundant in this part of Washington. This also happens to be the apple juice capitol I learned from a lucky lady. This town felt like home but it had a dark side that I could easily feel, but most towns have that if you listen to the ground
The river was familiar but different; we walked and found a castle fit for a kid king. It had the presence of a catholic cathedral and stood proud and sturdy in the gold light that fell to meet it on this rare Sunday. The castle had guards but with persuasion and a donation of blood we were granted access to the grounds and enjoyed it till light faded, then the road called.
The castle had been located at the end of a trail only accessible by foot and was right next to the free way kind of reminding me of the Pee Wee’s Big Adventure movie and somehow I thought how very American this was as a semi truck honked for a boy gesturing the motion.
Back
in the car we shot into the cosmos through the night, in the distance I could
see the white hill giants flashing their red eyes as they worked. The night
took easy and claimed the day as its own and my mind disconnected, everything
fell apart and I drifted through time and space, shooting for home.
